Ok, after a hard week of trying to look like you are worth what you are paid, its Friday.
A bar night out on the weekend can seem futile. Some want to dance. Others want to hear good music. These seem to be mutually exclusive which is what makes this a great event.
Some of the most undeniable music ever is from the soul era. The foundations of funk, house, disco were put into the mix with classic harmonies/melodies. Modern dance music owes soul a lot. It is great fun, in a bar setting, to dance without hearing watered down pop, rap, house.
The legendary dance music club Sonotheque had been hosting this event monthly and with its recent closing I thought soul night had suffered a premature demise. Luckily the Empty Bottle filled its void and based on the first night hosted there, it is even better now. It is easier to dance, get a drink, and it is cheaper. The crowd was great but there was not as many sweet outifits worn in adherence to the theme/spirit of the night.
