Remember stage dives? Remember when you went to shows not to stand around and nod in approval? Remember how chubby lead singers love taking their shirts of mid way though a set? Yeah, well you can get all that Saturday night with Fucked Up.

Fucked up, hailing from Toronto, has been killing it since 2001 with their own brand of hardcore. recently wining the 2009 Polaris Music Award after their release of "Chemistry of Common life". Last summer they played Pitchfork Music festival on Saturday, you may remember Pink Eyes ripping into the beach balls like a grizzly bear or the guitarist's stage dive resulting in a head wound. Oh yeah they also played a 24 hr show with some guest like Moby, Ezra (Vampire weekend), members from Dinosaur Jr., and others showing up for some covers.

FYI they love playing Chicago because the great response they get.

Either way, its always a great show with awesome vibes all around.

Extra Curricular Activities - Windy City Soul @ The Empty Bottle 1035 North Western Avenue

Ok, after a hard week of trying to look like you are worth what you are paid, its Friday.

A bar night out on the weekend can seem futile. Some want to dance. Others want to hear good music. These seem to be mutually exclusive which is what makes this a great event.

Some of the most undeniable music ever is from the soul era. The foundations of funk, house, disco were put into the mix with classic harmonies/melodies. Modern dance music owes soul a lot. It is great fun, in a bar setting, to dance without hearing watered down pop, rap, house.



The legendary dance music club Sonotheque had been hosting this event monthly and with its recent closing I thought soul night had suffered a premature demise. Luckily the Empty Bottle filled its void and based on the first night hosted there, it is even better now. It is easier to dance, get a drink, and it is cheaper. The crowd was great but there was not as many sweet outifits worn in adherence to the theme/spirit of the night.
